The Seven Sister Mandala Series was inspired by the myth of Pleiades. The many different versions and interpretations of how the Seven Sisters came to be, the symbolism and importance of this constellation an it’s influences on our current culture. I was having a discussion with another artist friend about the deeper meaning of the Seven Sisters and what they represented to us as women. After many discussions on the Seven Sister and the Myth of Pleiades; we came up with our own myth.
Our version of the Pleiades and the Sisters is a story about Seven Sisters who hold space in the universe. At night you can see their constellation. Their formation is in perfect balance to the universe. One night, as the Sisters were keeping watch on Earth, they felt a great disturbance radiating from within the Earth. The Sisters called a Council to decide on how to aid and bring balance to a world that was in turmoil. The Seven Sisters all agreed to send Balance down to Earth to fulfill a divine mission. Her six sisters hold space up in the night sky.
They communicate to one another via the star system. The six sisters use their virtues of Hope, Joy, Compassion, Love, Beauty and Faith to assist their sister Balance to bring Peace to and unsettled world. Through the integration of these Feminine Divine energies, the Earth could once again find Balance, Hope, Joy, Compassion, Love, Beauty and Faith. I used a circular canvas to represent a Mandala. It represents Wholeness. It creates Unity. It assists one in connecting to the Infinite. Each Sister is represented by a specific color and unique pattern formation. The shapes, lines and dots were created to correlate to each virtue the Sister possesses.
The dot patterns became a meditation. The Dots were created in silence and in present moment. In creating these Mandala’s my hope is that the viewer will meditate on the Color, Energy and Dot pattern created within each Mandala. Each individual can choose to incorporate all or just one of the virtues to pass on to one another to create a ripple effect.
