Through the Looking Glass

The shadow box canvas represents a contemporary window. The outside border of the window is stenciled in intricate patterns and shapes.  I used spray and acrylic paints in a variety of different hues that gives the illusion of other worlds. The colors pull you in and out. As you travel to the center of the window you will find colored broken mirror scattered throughout the space. The broken mirrors cover decorative paper, which represents wallpaper. It invites you in to look closer, as if to step into another room, another viewpoint or another world.

Once, you enter through the looking glass, everything changes, shifts and gives you a different viewpoint. What was once familiar is now unfamiliar. In entering this unfamiliar world through the looking glass, one must learn to navigate, without rules, to travel backwards and forward at the same time. To one moment be right side up and the next moment turned upside.

To successfully navigate this world, one must throw out logic and depend solely on their intuition. To be awake and dreaming at the same time and know they are both real.

That is the adventure and the lessons you learn when you step Through the Looking Glass.
